Vilenica aquatic insects collection
The Vilenica Aquatic Insect Collection is unique in that it was established through comprehensive surveys conducted throughout Croatia over the past 20 years.
The collection contains a representative assemblage of aquatic insect fauna, predominantly mayflies, from the Dinaric karst region of Croatia.
The collection comprises wet-preserved specimens of aquatic insects belonging to the orders mayflies (Ephemeroptera), dragonflies and damselflies (Odonata), stoneflies (Plecoptera), and alderflies, dobsonflies, and fishflies (Megaloptera).
The collection houses representatives of rare, endemic, and potentially threatened species from these groups.
It also contains species newly recorded for the Croatian fauna, as well as taxa of particular taxonomic interest.
