The collection of thin sections
The collection of thin sections consists of rock and mineral thin sections and grain mounts prepared for optical analysis using a polarizing microscope.
The collection also contains thin sections from the very beginnings of microscopic research and includes historically valuable thin sections prepared by prominent naturalists, petrographers, and mineralogists Gjuro Pilar, Mijo Kišpatić, Fran Tućan, and Ljudevit Barić, which gives it additional scientific and museological value.
The collection enables detailed study of the mineral composition, textures, and structures of rocks and serves as an important educational, comparative, and research resource in geological and petrographic research.
