Redenšek butterfly collection
This natural history collection is a closed collection. It consists of dry-preserved butterfly specimens collected from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. Part of the material was collected in Croatia, while another part comprises tropical butterflies of unknown origin. The collection is housed in seven appropriately sized entomological drawers (45 × 30 cm), stored in a single cabinet within the entomological repository of the Zoological Department.
The collection was assembled during the 20th century through the collecting activities of the renowned Croatian speleologist and amateur entomologist Vladimir Redenšek (Odra, 9 June 1887 – 1972). This butterfly collection reflects the state of the fauna of its time and is of considerable scientific value, as it enables comparisons with present-day faunal conditions.
