Perović Symphyta collection
The Perović Symphyta Collection comprises 7,506 dry-preserved specimens of sawflies (Insecta, Hymenoptera, Symphyta) collected by Mr. Franjo Perović, M.Sc. (1948–2013), curator of the Croatian Natural History Museum, between 1973 and 2010. The majority of the specimens (2,392 individuals) were collected in the Velebit mountain range between 1977 and 2005, although the collection also includes material from many other parts of Croatia and the Balkan Peninsula.
The published bibliography on sawflies includes the results of many years of systematic research that contributed to the development of the museum holdings now contained within the Symphyta Collection.
The collection is an open collection and continues to be expanded through the work of curator Klaić. This ongoing research will culminate in a doctoral dissertation entitled “Biodiversity and Distribution of Sawflies (Insecta, Hymenoptera, Symphyta) of the Velebit Mountain Massif.”
