Meteorite collection (extraterrestrial material)
The Meteorite Collection (Extraterrestrial Material) is unique among all collections of the Croatian Natural History Museum, as it is literally extraterrestrial, unlike all other natural history collections, which originate from Earth.
The collection comprises stony, iron, and stony-iron meteorites that have fallen or been discovered at various locations around the world. A special place within the collection is reserved for meteorites that fell within present-day Croatia, including the Hrašćina, Miljana, Slavetić, and Dubrovnik meteorites.
In addition to meteorites, the collection includes grains of lunar regolith returned by the Apollo 12 mission, as well as the lunar meteorite Bechar 003, discovered in the Algerian Sahara.
Alongside extraterrestrial material, the collection also contains terrestrial rocks formed as a result of meteorite impacts, including impact breccias, suevites, and tektites.
