Meteorite collection (extraterrestrial material)
Most of the meteorites that form the basis of the present-day collection were recorded in the books of the former Mineralogical and Petrographic Museum in Zagreb at the beginning of the 20th century. The remaining (supplemented part) of the collection was acquired in the mid-1970s. In addition to meteorites that fell in other countries (either nearby or further away), the Museum also preserves specimens of meteorites that fell on the territory of the Republic of Croatia. After a long period, the collection was expanded by the donation of a lunar meteorite specimen.
For each meteorite, there is information on the date and time of fall or discovery, the type of meteorite, a description and weight of the sample, and synonymy (if it exists).
A revision of the material in the meteorite collection determined that 53 items in the collection have been fully processed. The collection is fully photo-documented, well preserved, and properly stored.
