From the Museum into Nature — Sljeme: Horvatove Stube

Dear nature lovers,

The From the Museum into Nature program continues on Saturday, 29 May, with an educational trip.

The central theme of the trip will be the karst phenomena of the Horvatove stube area — springs, sinkholes, karren, caves, and pits. We will also encounter the metamorphic rocks of the central part of Medvednica, including green schists, as well as rare occurrences of igneous rocks and the rich plant and animal life of the area.

The trip starts from Sljeme, at the “Šumarske jaslice” bus stop of ZET line 140, Mihaljevac – Sljeme. The easiest way to reach Sljeme and return from Sljeme is by city bus, although arrival by private car is also possible.

The planned duration of the trip is from 8:30 a.m. to around 3:00 p.m.

Participants should bring suitable footwear, such as hiking boots or outdoor trainers, and layered clothing appropriate for the weather forecast. It is also recommended to bring rainwear and an umbrella.

A half-hour lunch break in nature is planned, so participants should bring their own food and water.

The hiking pace will be light and adapted to the abilities of the group, including children and older participants. However, the trail through Horvatove stube is steep and relatively demanding.

The only costs for the trip are transport costs, either by bus or private transport.

Expert guidance by the curators is free of charge.

Registration is required no later than Thursday, 27 May, by email: damir.lackovic@hpm.hr. The number of participants is limited to 20.

Trip leaders: Damir Lacković, Petar Crnčan, Petra Šparica, and Mateja Jagić
