Conservation and Preparation Department
The Conservation and Preparation Department (RPO) is a professional unit that serves all natural history departments. It provides expert and technical support, handles the receiving and isolation of specimens, and carries out their preparation, cleaning, conservation and restoration. The department also stores tissue and implements other necessary methods for identifying material from the museum’s collection, as well as, when needed, for collections from other natural history museums as part of its coordinating role.
The RPO consists of two units: the Preparation Unit and the Research Laboratories Unit. The Research Laboratories Unit includes the DNA Laboratory, the Laboratory for Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis (SEM Laboratory), and the Natural History Laboratory.
