Exhibition “Zagreb Before Zagreb – Before 1094”

On Tuesday, 5 June 2018, at 8:00 PM, the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb will host the opening of the exhibition “Zagreb Before Zagreb – Before 1094”, an authorial project by Zoran Gregl, Nenad Jandrić and Željko Kovačić.
Over the course of 28 years of the systematic museum-educational programme “Zagreb Before Zagreb – Before 1094”, twelve museum objects, in the form of replicas, have left the static museum environment and entered the bustle of Zagreb’s streets, placed at the authentic locations where they were originally discovered. Their mission has been to raise awareness of Zagreb’s natural and cultural heritage and to bring a touch of museum culture into the living urban fabric.
This exhibition presents a reversal. Since the monuments displayed on the streets cannot be returned to the museum, we are compelled to exhibit their originals. The whale, the bearded man from Petrinjska Street, the exceptionally good wife, the woolly mammoth and the rest of the company will attempt to bring a touch of urban life into the museum space in this exhibition about Zagreb as it was before Zagreb even existed.
Featured exhibits include: Pontius from Kerestinac, the mammoth from Frankopanska Street, Egnatuleius Florentinus, Jupiter, the bearded man from Petrinjska Street, the lamp from Mirogojska Street, Emperor Diocletian, the wife like no other, the Zagreb whale, and others.
