“Photographs in this exhibition are a direct photographic experiment that interdisciplinarily combines artistic intervention with specimens from the Croatian Natural History Museum’s mineral and rock collections and beetles from the Mikšić Beetle Collection, creating a visually engaging interplay of natural ‘ready-mades’ and almost abstract qualities resulting from centuries of natural processes. The vividly coloured beetles are immersed in, yet also contrast with, mineral structures, emerging from the darkness of a black background. At times, their colours stand in opposition to the surrounding darkness; elsewhere, concealed within matching tones of the mineral surface, they challenge viewers to discover what they expect to see. In other instances, they are cleverly positioned to complement and complete naturally formed compositions painted across the hard surfaces of minerals and rocks and woven into the very core of their structures.”

The exhibition remains open until March 6, 2020.
