The exhibition “The Perfection of Evolution – Revealed” uncovers
fascinating visual links between the natural history collections of the Croatian
Natural History Museum.
Through carefully designed photographs, visitors can explore surprising similarities
between beetles and minerals, observing how colours, patterns and structures are
repeated in both the living and non-living world.
Beetles and minerals
The Mikšić Beetle Collection is one of the most valuable collections of the
Croatian Natural History Museum. Due to the sensitivity of the specimens, it is
kept under special conditions and is not regularly available to the public.
This exhibition was created precisely to make part of this exceptional collection
accessible to a wider audience through photography.
Similarities in nature
The exhibition presents photographs of minerals from the mineralogical and
petrographic collections and beetle specimens from the Mikšić Beetle Collection
that match each other in colour, pattern or structure.
Some beetle species blend with the minerals so closely that, at first glance,
they are difficult to distinguish.
Real specimens and photographs
In addition to photographs, the exhibition includes thirteen beetle specimens and
eight mineral samples shown in the photographs.
This allows visitors to compare real objects with their artistic interpretations
and to observe more carefully the details that appear in different parts of the
natural world.
