About the exhibition
The exhibition “Memories” by photographer Ivica Lajtner brings
a nostalgic view of the former Croatian Natural History Museum, its holdings
and interiors as generations of visitors knew them from 1867 until the earthquake
in March 2020.
Through 18 large-format photographs, the author records scenes of the museum
that today exist only in memory. The photographs are a valuable document of a
time and space that marked the history of the museum before its renovation.
Photography as memory
Ivica Lajtner created the largest part of his photographic work in black-and-white
photography, a technique to which he remains faithful in this exhibition as well.
The black-and-white presentation further emphasizes the atmosphere, the memory
of the space and the feeling of the passage of time.
A space remembered
The exhibition invites visitors to remember the former permanent display of
the Croatian Natural History Museum and offers a unique insight into its
appearance before the major changes that followed the earthquake and renovation.
