“Cockroaches – A World That Endures” on Display at the Dubrovnik Natural History Museum
Dubrovnik Natural History Museum
31 January – 6 May 2019
For a moment, forget those occasions when your morning coffee or afternoon relaxation was interrupted by the appearance of a small creature that most people find repulsive. Forget where they come from, what they eat, and how they live, and instead view them as organisms perfectly shaped by nature—organisms entirely indifferent to our opinion of them. Their world existed long before ours, survived far greater catastrophes, and will most likely continue long after we are gone.
Most people know cockroaches only as pests and unwelcome household visitors. This exhibition offers a chance to observe them up close and discover how they have survived on Earth for more than 320 million years. Exhibition authors Iva Mihoci, PhD, Petar Crnčan, Vlatka Mičetić Stanković, PhD, and Mirna Klaić reveal the remarkable world of these extraordinarily resilient insects and explain why they believe cockroaches are here to stay—long after humanity.
