Workshop: Make a Bird Feeder
To help birds living in urban areas during the winter months, when low temperatures and food shortages make survival more difficult, we will make a simple bird feeder.
The feeder can be placed in a garden or on a balcony, but make sure it is positioned high enough to protect visiting birds from predators.
Materials needed:
- 500 g lard
- string
- wire
- a cork stopper
- a cup
- 500 g mixed seeds (sunflower, flax, pumpkin, barley, wheat)
Instructions:
- Melt the lard slowly in a pan over low heat.
- Add the seeds to the melted lard and mix thoroughly.
- Pour the mixture into a cup and place a piece of cork with a wire threaded through it at the bottom.
- Allow the mixture to cool and harden completely.
- Remove the feeder from the cup, attach a string to the wire, and hang it from a tree or another suitable location.
