Skalina is back: adult female bottlenose dolphin observed in the Jadro River
On February 18, 2026, a bottlenose dolphin was observed in the Jadro River near Split. Analysis of photographs confirmed that it is an adult female named Skalina, known to researchers since 2005.
Bottlenose dolphins are an adaptable species, and their presence in rivers — including those within the Adriatic basin — is not unusual.
Since the animal appears to be behaving normally and seems healthy, experts believe that no intervention is necessary. However, the public is kindly asked not to approach the dolphin and to report any sightings via the Marine Ranger app or to the Blue World Institute.
