Secrets of the Microworld: Microbial Jungles and Invisible Plankton Forests

🔬🌊 Secrets of the Microworld: Microbial Jungles and Invisible Plankton Forests 🌿🦠

In every sea and ocean lies an invisible world of microorganisms that form the foundation of life on Earth.

These tiny organisms may drift freely in the water or attach themselves to surfaces. They produce half of the oxygen we breathe 💨, serve as food for fish 🐟, turtles 🐢, and whales 🐋, and help maintain the balance of marine ecosystems.

During this lecture, we will explore the beautiful forms of microalgae such as diatoms and coccolithophores, observed through an electron microscope 🔍, and explain why microbial jungles are essential for all life on the planet 🌎.

❓ Questions we will explore:

🔹 Who lives in a drop of seawater when viewed under a microscope?
🔹 How do scientists capture organisms invisible to the naked eye?
🔹 Why do we say the ocean “breathes” — and who helps it do so? 🌬️🌊
🔹 How can something so small feed large fish and whales?
🔹 What does a jungle look like on the shell of a sea turtle? 🐢🌿
