Museum severely damaged in earthquake – closed until further notice
The Upper Town Amadeo Palace, home of the Croatian Natural History Museum, was severely damaged in the strong earthquake that struck Zagreb yesterday.
The Museum suffered major damage on the 1st and 2nd floors of the building, and the permanent exhibition known to generations of visitors was damaged, as were the exhibits from the current exhibitions.
The oldest natural history museum in Croatia thus shares the sad fate of numerous museum and cultural institutions housed in the City’s immovable monument heritage.
We believe that the significant damage that occurred will be successfully repaired with the help of the City of Zagreb, the Ministry of Culture and European Union funds, as part of the upcoming reconstruction and extension of the palace itself.
In solidarity and ready for all the forthcoming work of repair, restoration and reconstruction, we believe that our palace and museum holdings will soon be available to many future generations.
