Museum Night 2017 at the Croatian Natural History Museum

Museum Night 2017 at the Croatian Natural History Museum will take place on January 27, 2017, from 18:00.

Museum atrium – presentation of the project Culture, Science and Education in the Function of Economic Development – the New Croatian Natural History Museum.

Visitors can tour the permanent mineralogical-petrographic and zoological exhibitions.

Exhibition Metamorphosis – the Dream of a Voracious Caterpillar

Butterflies, especially daytime butterflies, attract people’s attention because of their beauty and how easily they can be observed.

Environmental changes lead to a decline in the abundance of butterflies and other plant and animal groups. Because of their beauty and charisma, unlike most other groups, the decline and disappearance of daytime butterflies from an area makes the loss of biological diversity visible to everyone.

Exhibition Miocene of Northern Croatia

The exhibition Miocene of Northern Croatia (From Mud to Gold) presents changes in the area of northern Croatia over a long period of almost 20 million years, during which the appearance of this region was constantly changing.

This is evidenced by thick deposits of various Miocene sediments, which preserve the remains of the living world of that time: bivalves, snails, foraminifera, ostracods, diatoms, silicoflagellates, algae, corals, sea urchins, crabs, fish, whales, sea cows, early elephants, early horses, pollen and spores, leaves, trunks and fruits of gymnosperms and angiosperms, insects and many other organisms, as well as traces of organism activity, or ichnofossils.

Exhibition Sounds of Insects – Orchestra of the Smallest

Throughout the exhibition, visitors are accompanied by the sounds of nature, some of which they may remember from childhood, and which today can only be heard in clean, untouched parts of nature.

The best known among them is the tireless field cricket, accompanied by the mighty oak longhorn beetle.

In this chorus, the loudest and most bizarre singer of all is certainly the perverse and lustful water bug that sings – with its penis!

Accompanying program
