In memoriam: Vladimir Zebec (14 July 1944 – 21 June 2026)

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our dear colleague and friend Vladimir Zebec, a long-serving mineralogist at the Croatian Natural History Museum.

He devoted his working life to studying minerals and rocks, enriching the Museum’s collections, and sharing his knowledge with generations of colleagues and students. His legacy includes valuable scientific publications, museum collections, and a monograph on the mineral paragenesis of the Stari Trg mine in Kosovo, as well as a lasting impression on everyone who worked with him.

We will remember Vlado as an approachable and kind-hearted person, always ready to share his expertise and offer support. His love of nature extended far beyond the world of minerals: on his property in his native Budrovac, he planted hundreds of trees, creating his own arboretum.

News of his passing reached us almost three months after his death. Alongside our sadness at the meetings that will no longer take place, we remain grateful for the years of working together, his friendship, and the memories we will cherish with warmth and respect.

Thank you for everything, dear Vlado.
