Erik/a – The Woolly Rhinoceros: Educational Workshop

As part of the exhibition Erik/a – The Woolly Rhinoceros, the Croatian Natural History Museum presented the travelling educational workshop “Extinct Giants of Croatia.” The workshop was led by museum advisor Renata Brezinščak and museum educator Petra Šparica.

Workshop duration: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Age group: 5–10 years

During this educational workshop, children explored some of the largest animal species that lived in what is now Croatia during the distant geological past and later became extinct. These animals inhabited the region tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and even millions of years ago.

Participants learned about the species themselves, the Croatian fossil sites where their remains were discovered, their scientific (Latin) names, and what they looked like. They also discovered how large and heavy these animals were, what they ate, and many other fascinating facts about their lives.
