Celebrating 100 Years of David Attenborough: A Museum Spectacle, Film Premiere, and Birthday Cake in the Atrium
On May 8, the Croatian Natural History Museum in Zagreb will celebrate the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough with a special programme titled Attenborough at 100, featuring the new documentary Ocean, screenings of the BBC series Blue Planet II, and the symbolic blowing out of one hundred candles in the museum atrium.
The central event of the day will be the premiere screening of the new documentary Ocean, produced in collaboration with National Geographic. The film offers a fascinating insight into the state of the world’s oceans, their biodiversity, and the increasingly visible consequences of climate change, accompanied by visually stunning underwater footage.
The evening screening will take place in the museum atrium on a brand-new large LED screen, which will be presented to the public for the first time during the event.
Alongside the film programme, visitors will be able to watch episodes of the award-winning BBC series Blue Planet II, take part in expert thematic guided tours through the permanent exhibition, and bring younger visitors to the workshop Earth in Frame, designed for children aged 6–10. Through documentary clips and guided interpretation, the workshop introduces children to the wonders of the natural world.
The ceremonial part of the programme will include the symbolic blowing out of candles in honour of Attenborough’s centenary, attended by representatives of the Embassy of the United Kingdom, as well as an introductory lecture by museum advisor Dr Draško Holcer, focusing on the scientific legacy and influence of the renowned naturalist.
