🐛 What Is Macrozoobenthos?

📅 February 5, 2026
📍 Multimedia Hall, Croatian Natural History Museum
👨‍🏫 Lecturer: Antonio Svorenji, M.Sc. Ecology

🌊 About the Lecture

What is macrozoobenthos?
Who are rotifers, caddisfly larvae, hydras, oligochaetes, and polychaetes?

How does water crowfoot indicate clean water quality?
And why do frogs, birds, bats, and many other animals gather on full moon nights? 🌕🐸🦇

🔬 Exploring a hidden world

In this lecture, you will discover the hidden world of aquatic organisms that are essential for the health of rivers and lakes. You will also explore a miniature version of an African savanna and learn more about one of the most important yet least known groups of animals — organisms that quite literally carry entire ecosystems on their backs. 🌍✨

🌿 Why it matters

Macrozoobenthos play a key role in aquatic ecosystems:

  • they are indicators of water quality
  • they form the base of food chains
  • they reflect the ecological health of rivers and lakes
  • they help scientists monitor environmental change
