Mikšić beetle collection (Insecta, Coleoptera)
In the 1980s, René Mikšić bequeathed his collection of more than 11,500 dry-preserved beetle specimens, along with a smaller number of specimens from other insect orders and a reference scientific library (which forms a logical unit with the collection), to the Croatian Natural History Museum.
The collection was transferred to the museum in 1987.
The Mikšić Collection contains more than 1,600 species, including specimens of exceptional scientific and cultural value: 20 holotypes—the single specimens upon which nominal species were originally described; 9 allotypes—specimens of the opposite sex to the holotype from the type series; 81 paratypes—all remaining specimens from the original type series after designation of the holotype; and 10 syntypes—one or more specimens used by the author in the description of a new species when no holotype was designated or when multiple specimens were simultaneously identified as holotypes.
The specimens in the collection originate from almost all continents and were collected in 118 countries worldwide.
