A museum is not only an oasis of art and accumulated knowledge, but also a starting point for research that discovers and connects diverse disciplines and opens unknown spaces.

By recording the testimonies of poet and playwright Radovan Ivšić in Paris and Zagreb, in the forester’s lodge on Sljeme, during the last year of his life, the Museum of Contemporary Art raised a series of questions and interpretations of historical circumstances and interdisciplinary connections, as well as two exhibitions in 2015.

The first was held at the Museum of Contemporary Art under the title The Unconquered Forest, authored by writer Annie Le Brun and art historian Snježana Pintarić, and the second at the Croatian Music Institute, followed by a collection of texts about Družina mladih, authored by musicologists Nada Bezić and Seadeta Midžić.

Unknown manuscripts were discovered, and interestingly designed utilitarian objects of the Družina emerged, while from the shadow of a difficult time, a circle of members and participants in this not only theatrical adventure came into focus, outlining an area of intense and stimulating collaboration across all artistic fields.

Ivšić, an active member of Breton’s Surrealist group and, according to Ivo Malec, together with Vlado Habunek the soul of the theatre enthusiasts of Družina mladih, was also a passionate and lucid witness to the artistic, social and political dramas of his time.
