A final farewell to our colleague Jakov Radovčić
Our colleague Jakov Radovčić, a long-time curator and museum advisor in the Geological and Palaeontological Department, passed away at the age of 76.
During his long and dedicated museum career, he was the initiator of or collaborator on numerous museological and scientific projects.
He was the author of the first programme concept for the work of the Croatian Natural History Museum, as well as the concept for one of our most visited museums – the Krapina Neanderthal Museum, for which he received an award.
He was the author of numerous popular science television and radio programmes in Croatia and abroad, studied around the world, and left an indelible mark as one of the most distinguished Croatian museum professionals.
He completed his studies in geology and palaeontology at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb and received his master’s degree in 1974 from the University of Illinois in Chicago.
He worked in the Geological and Palaeontological Collection and Karst Laboratory of JAZU from 1970 to 1979, and from 1980 in the Geological and Palaeontological Department of the Croatian Natural History Museum, where he was head of the Anthropological Collection and the Krapina Diluvium Collection.
He worked in the field of hominid palaeontology, especially Neanderthals. He wrote texts for Croatian and foreign popular science television programmes and films.
