From the Museum into Nature – Sljeme: Horvat’s Steps

Dear nature lovers, the program From the Museum into Nature continues on Saturday, 29 May, with an educational excursion.

The central theme of the excursion is the karst phenomena of the Horvat’s Steps area: springs, dolines, karren, caves and pits.

We will also encounter metamorphic rocks of the central part of Medvednica, green schists, as well as rare occurrences of igneous rocks and rich plant and animal life.

The excursion starts from Sljeme, from the “Šumarske jaslice” bus stop of ZET line 140 Mihaljevac – Sljeme.

The easiest way to reach Sljeme and return from Sljeme is by city bus, although it is also possible to come by private car.

The planned duration of the excursion is from 8:30 to around 15:00.

For the excursion, participants should bring suitable footwear, hiking boots or outdoor sneakers, and layered clothing adapted to the weather forecast. It is also recommended to bring clothing in case of rain and an umbrella.

A half-hour lunch break in nature is planned, so participants should bring their own food and water.

The hiking pace will be easy and adapted to the abilities of the group, including children, older participants and others, but the trail through Horvat’s Steps is steep and relatively demanding.

The only costs for the excursion are transportation costs, by city bus or private transport.

Expert guidance by the curator is free of charge.

Registration for the excursion is required no later than Thursday, 27 May, by e-mail:

The number of participants is limited to 20.

Excursion leaders: Damir Lacković, Petar Crnčan, Petra Šparica and Mateja Jagić
