MUZZA 2023 – workshop registration
At this year’s MUZZA, we are participating with the exhibition SUPERORGANISM – the life forces of social insects and the workshops “Superorganism” and “DNA Detective”.
A superorganism is a closely connected colony of individuals, characterized by altruistic cooperation, complex communication and a unique division of labor. It represents one of the basic biological organizations and one of the most complex biological phenomena.
By researching superorganisms, we gain important insights into understanding the ways and paths of the evolution of life from simple to complex forms, and we explain concepts such as altruism, personality, intelligence, efficiency, immunity, beauty and art.
The exhibition Superorganism – The Life Forces of Social Insects presents a large number of specimens from the entomological collections of the Croatian Natural History Museum, including species from the families of bees, wasps, ants and termites. In total, more than 1000 individuals from these groups will be displayed.
The exhibition covers the following topics:
- A tiny brain – advanced understanding of the surrounding environment
- Evolutionary drivers of social immunity and its impact on pathogens
- The personality of social insects – what we can learn from holometaboly and caste life
- The evolution of sociality and “social” chromosomes
- Care for dead individuals in social communities
- Genetic structure and epigenetic processes behind social organization
- The phenomenon of creating functional structures through association
- Humans as a superorganism
