Myriapods (Myriapoda) collection
The majority of specimens in the collection date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries (1882–the 1930s), followed by a long hiatus in collecting activity until the 1980s. Most specimens originate from Croatia, with a smaller number from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
Among the early collectors were several renowned naturalists and museum professionals from Croatia and neighbouring countries (formerly parts of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and later the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia), including Ljudevit Rossi, Rikard Gasperini, Viktor Apfelbeck, Milan Šnap, Krunoslav Babić, Adolf Eugen Jurinac, Alfred Pichler, and Tonko Šoljan.
The cave millipede specimens collected during the 1980s and 1990s were gathered primarily by Branko Jalžić, a museum technician at the Croatian Natural History Museum.
