Green Eye Festival

In Search of the Fifth Element – Green Eye Festival Comes to Zagreb from May 20 to 22

The Green Eye Festival, an innovative programme that has combined film art and environmental awareness since 2017, arrives in Zagreb this year under the title In Search of the Fifth Element.

The festival will take place from May 20 to 22, 2026, at the Croatian Natural History Museum, organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, the Croatian Natural History Museum, and the Public Institution Krka National Park.

The festival will symbolically open on World Bee Day, May 20, and conclude on May 22, marking the International Day for Biological Diversity and Nature Protection Day in the Republic of Croatia.

Through documentary films, panel discussions, and conversations with experts, the Zagreb edition of the Green Eye Festival will explore the relationship between humanity and nature, inviting audiences to reflect on both personal and collective responsibility toward the environment.

This year’s festival theme focuses on the “fifth element” — human awareness and responsibility — seen as essential for preserving natural balance and ensuring a sustainable future.

Over the course of three festival days, the programme will focus on pollinators, water, and biodiversity — themes that profoundly shape both our present and our future.

Visitors will have the opportunity to watch the documentaries:

  • Once You Know
  • Pollinators
  • Blue River
  • Every Little Thing
  • Common Ground
  • My Garden of a Thousand Bees
  • Green Urban Life

A special emphasis will be placed on connecting scientists, institutions, local communities, and citizens in a shared effort to protect nature.

Experts in environmental protection, biology, sustainable development, education, and media will discuss today’s key challenges — from the impact of climate change and water pollution to the crucial role pollinators play in food security and ecosystem preservation.

The panels will also explore the role of young people, media, and culture in shaping a more sustainable future, while presenting examples of good practice and highlighting different ways citizens can actively participate in nature conservation.

The Green Eye Festival is a unique example of a festival initiated by a public institution and has, since its beginnings, been recognized as a platform that promotes environmental awareness, sustainability, and active public participation in nature conservation through audiovisual art and educational programmes.

Admission to all screenings and panel discussions is free of charge, but advance registration is required due to limited seating capacity.
