A guest exhibition of the Croatian Natural History Museum at Muzej Moslavine Kutina
presents rich insect collections, their diversity, abundance, and importance for
the functioning of ecosystems.
About the Exhibition
The exhibition “Insects – Natural History Heritage of Croatia”
presents the rich insect collections of the Croatian Natural History Museum, some
of which have been preserved since the 19th century.
The exhibition presents representative specimens of beetles, butterflies, and other
insects preserved in 38 entomological collections of the Croatian Natural History Museum.
This fascinating exhibition opened the doors of the new Croatian Natural History Museum
in 2024, offering insight into the fascinating world of insects, their abundance,
diversity, and importance for the functioning of ecosystems. It is now also presented
in cooperation with the partner museum institution, Muzej Moslavine Kutina.
Thematic Sections
Diversity of insects
Insects make up 80% of the total diversity of life on planet Earth, and the
Museum’s holdings contain almost half a million insect specimens.
Life cycle of insects
Visitors learn about the developmental stages of holometabolous and hemimetabolous
insects through interactive models and morphology presented in holographic displays.
Ecological roles of insects
The exhibition presents the key role insects play as pollinators, their role
in pest control and as decomposers, as well as the threats many species face.
