Field training for students of Queen Mary University of London in the karst region of Croatia

From 20 to 24 April 2026, curators of the Croatian Natural History Museum, Denis Bućan, M.Sc. in Ecology, and Dr. Igor Boršić, participated in conducting field training for students of Queen Mary University of London, in cooperation with the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb.

The field training was held in the areas of Vrlika, the Cetina River, and Krka National Park, where students had the opportunity to become acquainted with the biodiversity of karst ecosystems and the specific characteristics of Croatia’s unique natural heritage.

During the fieldwork, our curators demonstrated methods of sampling aquatic organisms, the use of basic field equipment, measurement of environmental parameters, identification of characteristic plant species and habitats, and the preparation of vegetation surveys.

This type of instruction provides students with direct experience of working in nature and a deeper understanding of the complexity and value of the karst ecosystems of the Dinarides, while also strengthening international cooperation and knowledge exchange.
