“Perfection of Evolution – Unveiling” at Marina Držić Children’s Library
Marin Držić Children’s Library
1 October – 29 October 2018
The photographs in this exhibition are a direct photographic experiment that interdisciplinarily combines artistic intervention with specimens from the Croatian Natural History Museum’s mineral and rock collections and beetles from the Mikšić Beetle Collection, creating a visually engaging interplay between natural “ready-mades” and the almost abstract qualities resulting from the centuries-long intervention of natural processes. The colourful beetles are immersed in, yet also contrast with, the mineral structures, emerging from the darkness of the black background, at times using their coloration to oppose the darkness surrounding them, while elsewhere, concealed by their colouring in tones matching the background, they challenge the viewer’s eye to find what is expected. In other places, they are ingeniously positioned to complete and complement the naturally formed composition depicted on the hard surfaces of the minerals and rocks and woven into the very core of their structure.
