11 godina poučnih izleta HPM-a
Virtual Photography Exhibition
The Croatian Museum of Natural History has been implementing a programme for the past eleven years aimed at encouraging citizens to go into nature and directly experience natural phenomena in their natural environment.
During its first five years, the programme was carried out in the Medvednica area under the title “From the Museum to Medvednica”, while in the last six years it has been expanded to the entire territory of Croatia under a new name, “From the Museum into Nature”.
The programme is organised in spring and autumn, primarily in the form of educational field trips into nature, and occasionally as lectures and workshops for children held at the museum. As public interest in field lectures has decreased while interest in nature excursions has grown, recent years have focused mainly on guided outdoor excursions.
Over eleven years, a total of:
- 44 educational field trips
- 40 natural science lectures
- 38 children’s workshops
have been organised.
The field trips take place on weekends as easy walks along selected hiking trails (and occasionally off-trail), during which museum curators—geologists and biologists—present selected natural phenomena directly in the field. These excursions often highlight the importance of specific localities, their protection, and their connection with the museum’s collections, such as Hušnjakovo near Krapina, the Bizek quarry, and the Zrinski mines.
The programme is free of charge and is mainly attended by families with children, kindergarten and school groups, students, and retirees.
This exhibition presents a selection of photographs from the museum’s educational field trips, from the first ones in 2009 up to the last one in 2019.
We hope that the programme “From the Museum into Nature” will continue in its original form—educational field trips in nature—as there is strong public interest in it.
